How to manage bookmarks across Chrome and Safari

You bookmark an article in Chrome at your desk, then reach for your iPhone to finish reading it in Safari. Before choosing a tool, decide whether you need the browsers' own bookmarks to stay in sync or simply want to open the same saved links from either device. linqlo gives you a common place to save and find those links.

Choose the kind of connection you actually need

Sending yourself a URL works well for an occasional handoff. When that becomes a daily routine, consider these options.

Your goal A suitable approach What to check
Use the same browser on several devices The browser's account sync Account and sync settings
Move an existing collection once Export and import bookmarks Later changes remain separate
Connect Windows Chrome with Safari on Apple devices iCloud for Windows and its browser extension Supported software and iCloud settings
Keep one library while using different browsers A shared destination such as linqlo Save new links to that destination

For Windows users, Apple documents a way to enable Bookmarks in iCloud for Windows and install the extension for the browser you use. Safari must also be set up with iCloud on your Apple devices. This is a Windows workflow, not the same setup for Chrome on a Mac. Follow Apple's iCloud Bookmarks instructions to check the requirements for your setup.

A one-time move is different. Chrome supports importing and exporting bookmarks, including importing an HTML bookmark file. Importing copies the existing collection; it does not keep future changes connected.

What changes when you use linqlo

Instead of maintaining a matching bookmark tree in every browser, you save links to linqlo and open that library wherever you need it. Use the same account and workspace on both devices.

Clicking Chrome's bookmark star or adding a Safari favorite does not send the link to linqlo. Editing a link in linqlo does not rewrite either browser's bookmarks. You can keep a few everyday shortcuts in your browser and use linqlo for articles, references and links you want to revisit elsewhere.

Try one link before moving your collection

1. Create an account and choose a workspace

Sign up for linqlo and sign in on your computer. If you have several workspaces, choose the one you use for your own links. Remember that choice: the account alone is not enough if your phone opens a different workspace.

2. Save a page from your computer

Copy the address of an article or public reference page. In linqlo, select “Save a link” at the top right. In the “Add bookmark” dialog that opens, paste the URL and save it. A public page makes a useful first test because you can open it without another site's login getting in the way.

If you have installed the linqlo extension in a supported desktop browser, you can save from the page you are viewing. The image below shows the desktop extension popup. Pasting the URL into the web app is also available when you do not use an extension.

3. Open it in Safari on your phone

Visit the linqlo website in Safari, sign in with the same account and select the same workspace. Find the title in your library and open the link. This tests the actual computer-and-phone combination you plan to use.

4. Save a link in the other direction

Copy a page's URL in Safari, return to the linqlo web app and tap “Save.” In the “Add bookmark” dialog that opens, paste the URL and save it. Open or refresh your library on the computer and find that link. You now have a repeatable way to save from either device.

Limits and access to keep in mind

Free includes up to 500 saved bookmarks. Personal Pro costs US$5 per month. Before importing a large bookmark file, check how many links you already have and how much capacity remains.

This walkthrough uses the mobile website. It does not require a native app or assume that a mobile share-sheet extension is available to everyone. The desktop browser extension is separate from Safari on an iPhone.

Saving a link also does not grant access to the destination. A subscription article or work application may require another login on your phone. Nor does a saved URL guarantee that the original page will remain available or unchanged.

Questions about using two browsers

Will Safari favorites appear in linqlo automatically?

No. Add new links to linqlo explicitly. For an existing collection, export a supported bookmark file and use “Import” in linqlo settings. Treat that as a migration step rather than continuous browser sync.

Can I use this with Chrome on a Mac?

Yes, the approach is to access the linqlo web app from your computer and phone. It does not depend on the Windows iCloud setup above. Try saving and opening one link before deciding to move a larger collection.

Why is a link missing on my phone?

Check the signed-in account, workspace and selected collection. Clear any search or tag filters, then refresh the library. If you only added the page to Chrome's own bookmarks, you still need to save it to linqlo.

Do I need to migrate everything first?

Start with a few links you want to read next. Once the save-and-revisit routine works for you, bring over the older bookmarks you still need.
